Part of our refurbishment programme is to build a children’s playground on the western side of the building (the right hand side as you look at the hall from the road). Back in 2012 we set up a competition for the children at the local village school to tell us what they wanted by submitting their designs and ideas for the playground. We were delighted with the response from children and parents alike, and we have now been able to tailor-make our play area to suit their suggestions. (What we will end up with is a selection of the most popular items – we would need an area the size of Shaftesbury to fit in all of their suggestions!).
The final plan will include swings – with junior flat seat and infant seat – an adventure trail, including stepping stones, a balance beam, monkey bars and a tyre crossing, with a tunnel mound with steps and a slide. There will also be a picnic bench – somewhere for parents to sit and watch their children play.
We have received the requisite quotes from three reputable playground designers, and have submitted a request to the South West Area Board for funding to help us get the playground under way. The meeting is on 17th July, so we have our fingers firmly crossed!
