Semley Village Hall Re-Opening on May 17th 2021

The Village Hall Management Committee is pleased to announce that Semley Village Hall will be reopening for indoor activities on May 17th.

We have significantly improved the facilities at the hall during the last 12 months, with financial support from Wiltshire Council and Semley Village Stores for which we are extremely grateful.

Inside, we have improved looks, cleanliness, and hygiene by refurbishing the wood floor and painting the wood panelling in the main hall and installing UPVC cladding on the walls and shelf units in the toilets. Outside, we have improved looks, safety and security by installing new wood fencing and gates, completing the off-road parking area, surfacing the lay-by and installing new proximity lighting around the hall.

Initially, we will be limiting numbers of users inside the hall to 50% capacity, require users to abide by the “rule of 6”, and social distancing, prior to opening without restrictions on June 21st. Please contact Andy Roger, our Booking Secretary, on 07484 349701 or via to discuss availability.

The Play Area is available to everyone in the community and hirers of the hall in accordance with government guidelines for outside activities.

Pre-School Nursery Provision

Regretfully, South Hills Nursery has notified parents and the hall committee that it will end Pre-School Nursery provision at the hall at the start of the half term holiday at the end of May due to staffing difficulties. Recognising the clear need for a pre-school nursery in Semley, we are in discussions with another provider to see if it can replace South Hills starting in early June to provide continuity of service through to the end of the school year.

To help the new provider understand how much demand there is, please let us know if you are interested in using the nursery at the hall during the school year starting in September, by emailing

Gig for the Hall – Saturday 25th March 2017 – 7pm LIVE MUSIC

Gig for the Hall is a fundraising event to raise money to develop the car park at the Hall.   There will be two live bands – folk and blues from Nadder Creek, and rock covers and originals from exciting local boys Stolen Jam.  Following the bands, DJs Steff and Pete will take over to provide music and dancing until midnight.  There will be a bar and food available.

Tickets £5 in advance from Semley Village Stores, or £6 on the night.

There was much excitement on Saturday 12th April as our new children’s play park was opened by Councillor Bridget Wayman and SVH Chairman Tony Duthie.   They were assisted in cutting the ribbon by Elsa Kennett (age 9) and Cameron Binns (age 7) who had won our ‘Design a Playpark’ competition.

Picture 1The park will suit children of all ages, and includes swings, a slide and tunnel, balance beam and monkey bars, hanging tyres and ‘stepping stones’.

It cost around £14,000 to build, and was funded by Section 106 (R-2) funds allocated by Sedgehill and Semley Parish Council and approved by Wiltshire Council, a community grant from Wiltshire Council, in-kind contributions from Whitebridge Hire of Semley, volunteer labour and Semley Village Hall funds.

Drainage, landscaping and fencing materials and play equipment were all locally sourced.  A team of local Semley volunteers prepared the area, with significant help from Robin Young, and much needed refreshments provided by Fay Duthie.  The installation of the equipment and safety fence was carried out by Podo Play of Tisbury.

Councillor Wayman said: “This new play area is an excellent example of how a community can work together with the Parish and County Councils to allocate funding for such an important community project.  I am sure the children will really enjoy the play area”.

Apologies for the mess!

We apologise to users of the hall for the state of the grounds and car park at the moment.  We are currently putting in drainage in preparation for our new children’s playpark.

This stage of the work will be completed by the end of October, weather permitting, allowing the equipment to be installed and the area grassed during November.  We are trying hard to contain the messy area and keep disruption to a minimum and hope you can bear with us.

Unfortunately, the playground will not be usable until the grass around the equipment is well established. We are hopeful that the area will be ready for use in time for the Easter holidays next year.  We will be planning a Grand Opening at that time.
